Nyanya Bridge Fatal Crash: FRSC Corps Marshal Orders Immediate Re-Inspection And Recertification Of Dangote Fleet And Drivers Nationwide.
The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed has directed the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Office of the Corps to commence re-inspection of Dangote Trucks as well as recertification of their drivers for maximum compliance with safety standards.
He stated this following the tragic road traffic crash that involved Dangote truck on Wednesday 31 July, 2024 at 2040HRS on the Nyanya-Maraba busy highway.
The crash involved 10 vehicles, a Dangote Truck, an ash colour Toyota Corolla RSH-633-FB, a red Volkswagen Golf without registration number, a black Volkswagen Golf 3 AF160-KAC, another red Volkswagen Golf 3 SML-199AA, and a silver colour 406 Peugeot YAB-307AF
Others are; a green Volkswagen Golf ABC-846ZW, and 3 Bajaj Boxer unregistered motorcycles.
A total of 19 victims (15 male adults and 4 female adults) were involved. From the number, 14 male adults sustained varying degrees of injuries including cuts, fracture, bruises etc; while 5 victims, comprising of 4 males and 1 female were killed.
From the analysis containing the cause of the crash, the Dangote trailer which was conveying full load of cement had a break failure, the driver lost control of the wheels while on a speed that was already against the prescribed legal speed limit on that road, before crashing into the vehicles.
It is to be noted that 3 of the injured victims were rescued to NYANYA General Hospital, 3 to Asokoro General Hospital, and the remaining 9 were rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja for emergency medical attention.
The dead victims have been deposited in Karu General Hospital Morgue after Doctors confirm them dead.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed also directed on the immediate clearance of obstructions caused by the crash, as well as prosecution of the truck Operator.
