Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed Congratulates FRSC Safety Shooters for Lifting NUJ Trophy for the Second Time in a Row
Arising from the spectacular performance displayed by the Federal Road Safety Corps football club at the just concluded Nigeria Union of Journalist, FCT Correspondents Chapel football tournament, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed has personally congratulated the team for emerging champions of the tournament for the second time in a row.
In his congratulatory message, the Corps Marshal commended the team spirit with which they played. He celebrated their tenacity, resilience and determination to always win, noting that it represents the true spirit of the founding fathers of the Corps.
The FRSC football team also known as the ‘Safety Shooters’ lifted the trophy after beating the Federal High Court team for the second time in row by a lone goal at the end of the second half, in a keenly contested match at the Old Parade Ground Area 10 in Abuja.
The tournament which began last year featured twelve teams in its 2024 edition from both private and public organisations.
Before emerging champions of the tournament, the FRSC team had earlier edged out the Nigeria Medical Association ( NMA ) , Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA ) and the Nigeria Customs ( NCS ). While the Federal High Court ( FHC ) who won the silver medal eliminated the Nigeria Police Force( NFP ) and tournament title sponsor AIBEN who had defeated Sports writers Association ( SWAN) to set for the grand finale.
Speaking on the success recorded during the outing, FRSC winning captain Azubuike Stephen, admitted that the team was under pressure to win again.
“The experience has been great, you know coming from last year’s victory to this year, much was expected from us and we gave our best to deliver what was expected from us. We won the cup for our Corp Marshal and we definitely know that he’ll reward us,” Azubuike
