WORLD BANK ENGAGES CONSULTANTS ON  SAFE CORRIDOR PROJECTS IN NIGERIA 

Pursuant to a renewed drive towards efficient and effective capacity development and training of personnel for the on- going World Bank safe corridor project in Nigeria and extended safety- related services, the World Bank has secured the services of a Consultancy  firm under the Federal Road Development Programme, Safe Corridor Project.

This was made public by the FRSC Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka during the formal presentation of the firm, Creative Resources Solutions Limited by the Road Sector Development Team (RSDT) on behalf of the World Bank.

According to the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, the primary objectives of the consulting service is to develop an enduring training programme towards  a robust capacity building strategy in line with the safe corridor model of the World Bank.

The Corps Marshal added that the consultancy engagement has designed a template for enhanced road traffic management in line with the Private Public Partnership approach.

Details of the consultancy services include the development of training curriculum and training programme for all cadre of FRSC staff, identification of relevant service providers and conducting training needs assessment, in addition to initiation and formulation of human resources policies and employees’ statistics management.

The Corps Marshal also disclosed that the FRSC has concluded plans for strategic capacity development programme on road audit for its staff in collaboration with an international Institute as part of measures to enhance the Corps’ machinery for conducting research and making projections on road traffic trends.

In his remark, Lead Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Creative Human Resources Solutions, Mr. Tolu Ighodalo said that the project execution entails the “Identification of relevant training service providers to draw and execute  a capacity building programme for all rank and file of the FRSC staff to ensure the sustainability of the safe corridor project and fashion out modalities to determine career progression path for FRSC personnel.”

Similarly, the project will achieve a direct involvement of the middle and senior cadre staff of the Corps in the review of basic development, structure and policies in order to create team work model in the overall FRSC work plan and discharge of statutory functions.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps has concluded arrangements for a country capacity review on Road Traffic Administration and Safety Management in Nigeria by a delegation of World Bank consultants to be accompanied by the programme co-ordinator, Global Road Safety Foundation  Washington DC, United States of America.

Details of the country capacity review which will run from 3 -16 July,2010, indicate that the World Bank team will interact with relevant stakeholders such as the Federal Ministries of Works, Education, Transport, Health, Information and Communication, FERMA, the British High Commission, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Exxon Mobil, Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative, Shell Petroleum Development Company, Joint Tax Board, National Association of Road Transport Owners, Association of Luxury Bus Owners, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria and also visit  some select corridors on the nation’s highways under the World Bank safe corridor project.
