FRSC BEGINS EYE TEST FOR DRIVERS

As part of the measures aimed at correcting visual disabilities among Nigerian drivers, Management of the Federal Road Safety Commission has commenced a three-day mandatory free eye test for its drivers.

According to the FRSC, the nationwide exercise which is a pilot scheme, will expose its over 90 official drivers at the Abuja National Headquarters to visual acuity test, would be extended to its States, Zonal and Local Government Commands in order to ensure a grass root-based visual accuracy among Nigerian drivers.

Similarly, eye test are considered necessary in view of empirical studies which indicate that eyes play a role on an average driver in determining accurate judgment while driving, hence the need for routine eye tests in order to reduce the occurrence of road traffic accidents associated with impaired vision.

eanwhile, the FRSC has concluded plans to introduce the mandatory visual acuity tests to professional drivers across the country.
