The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has assured the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) that his ministry will sustain its collaboration with the Corps in ensuring that victims of road traffic crashes receive adequate and prompt medical attention.

He gave the assurances during a courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Osita Chidoka at the Corps Headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday 14 July 2010.

Professor Chukwu who was the first Minister of Health to pay such a visit to the Corps, expressed satisfaction with the commitment of FRSC officers to issues of road safety, promising that he will ensure that the existing partnership between the Corps and the Federal Ministry of Health is sustained, to ensure that help got to the victims promptly and adequately.

“I want to say that I am inspired by the job you are doing. Before I became the Minister of Health, I had always admired your assignment; and I am particularly inspired now with the steps you have taken in using information communication technology to manage traffic and carry out rescue operations in the country”, he said.

“All areas that require collaboration between our two organisations would be explored to ensure safety of all road users”.

The Minister who was accompanied on the visit by some Directors of the Ministry, including that of the Hospital Services was taken round the Corps Call/Data Centre where he expressed commendation to the Corps Marshal for “expanding the scope of the Corps through the use of information communication technology.

“This is a new FRSC driven by a visionary, intelligent, smart and hardworking Corps Marshal. The innovative approach to the management of our highways is very commendable. We seek further collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Health and FRSC”, he stated.
