GOVERNOR AKWEI DOMA TASKS ROAD USERS ON SAFETY CONSCIOUSNESS
Worried by the spate of recklessness among motorists in Nigeria, the Nasarawa State Governor Dr. Akwei Doma has charged the motoring
public to strictly conform with traffic rules and regulations in order to
ensure sanity on the nation’s highways.Speaking through the Deputy Governor,Chief Michael Abdul
during the formal commissioning of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Emergency Ambulance Service Centre at Keffi, the State Governor decried the monumental
loss which the country face in human and
material resources through road traffic crashes ”It is lamentable that precious
lives and property are being wasted on our roads through such unwelcome
conducts. It must be emphasized that traffic rules and regulations must be
observed at all times,” he added.
Earlier in his address, the FRSC Corps Marshal and Chief
Executive, Osita Chidoka stated that the Keffi Emergency Ambulance Service
Centre tagged “Zebra 5” is part of the Corps’ sustained efforts to replicate
the four centres in the FCT in every state of the federation as part of
strategies to ensure qualitative ambulance services and handling of road crash
victims, rescue operations and increased response time to road crash situations
across the country.
The Corps Marshal also added that global statistics indicated
that worst victims of road carnage are those that fall within the productive
age bracket, which has a spiraling effect on the nation’s socio-economic
growth.
He therefore solicited logistics support from the Nasarawa
state Governor to ensure that more centres are established in the state
especially areas with frequent occurrence of road crash “I will call on His
Excellency, Governor to support this scheme both morally and in terms of
logistics by providing the enabling environment to aid our efforts to establish
more rescue centres in the state especially in areas where we record road
traffic crashes without available facilities for rescue,” the Corps Marshal
stated.
It will be recalled that four emergency ambulance service centres were commissioned in August last year in the Federal Capital Territory
with state-of-art facilities and specialized paramedics who were trained
through a partnership arrangement at the Trauma Centre of Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
