REMI OYO SAYS CHANGE IS A NOBLE PHENOMENON The Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mrs Oluremi Oyo has described change as “a noble phenomenon with multiplying effects which must be embraced by upwardly mobile people and organisations”. She stated this while delivering a paper entitled “Change” at the 2010 Retreat organised for Unit Commanders of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by the Management, to keep them abreast of the ongoing changes in the Corps and prepare for the tasks of modern operations and management. According to her, “change is noble; it is not destructive, but an ever evolving phenomenon that tends toward perfection and involves risk taking”. “Change is about people, it is meant to stick and every organisation must work hard to perfect it”, she stated. While justifying changes that have taken place in the News Agency of Nigeria with the introduction of information communication technology (ICT), the Managing Director said “There had to be change for any organisation that wants to survive in the competitive world of today”. According to her “before now, NAN was generating an average of 60 stories daily, but with the change, it now generates up to 450 stories”. Mrs Remi Oyo applauded FRSC for embarking on change in its operations and management system, which she said “will assist the organisation in its quest to attaining world class status”. She therefore restated the willingness of NAN to collaborate with it in its efforts at ensuring prompt response to distress calls through the dissemination of prompt and accurate report of road traffic crashes to members of the public. The lecture which took place at the National Merit House’s Auditorium, Abuja, had the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Osita Chidoka in attendance. Some principal officers of the Headquarters were also present with the Unit Commanders from all FRSC unit commands across the nation as participants.
